Beyond the rush of adrenaline and the joy of exploration, Georgia Cycling Association’s TeamMTB program offers a host of physical, mental, and social benefits that can positively impact adolescents' lives.

In an age where screen time often dominates leisure activities, getting outdoors and engaging in physical exercise is more important than ever for the well-being of young people. Among the myriad of outdoor activities available, cross-country mountain biking stands out as an exhilarating and beneficial option, particularly for middle and high school students.

The Georgia Cycling Association’s TeamMTB program is a five-month youth mountain bike league that provides students, in grades 6-12, the unique opportunity to get active, grow their self-confidence, and build life-long healthy habits.

Georgia Cycling welcomes riders of all skill levels. There are NO TRYOUTS to join a Georgia Cycling team. TeamMTB is open to all public, private, and home school students in the state of Georgia.

Our season starts July 1 and runs through early November. During this time, local youth mountain bike teams across the state host practices to learn cross-country mountain bike skills. Students will also build life skills, rooted in our core values, that will help them on and off the trail. The Northside Hospital Race Series is an optional add-on for students who want competition.

TeamMTB has an enrolment fee of $205 per student-athlete.
Registration for the 2024 season opens April 1 and closes August 23.

  • The $205 enrollment fee enables a student-athlete to join and participate with a local Georgia Cycling team. This fee covers league administrative fees such as insurance, registration fulfillment, staffing, and more.

Participation in the Georgia Cycling Race Series presented by Northside Hospital is an additional add-on. Read more about our race series here.

Please note, your local team may have an annual team fee that is in addition to the Georgia Cycling Program fee.

  • We are proud to have over 600 volunteer coaches participating in the Georgia Cycling Youth Mountain Bike Program. These are community volunteers, many of which have (or have had) children participating in the Georgia Cycling program.

  • We are proud to say that the Georgia Cycling Association has a coach training program that is significantly more in-depth than most youth sports. A background check is done every year on each coach, along with annual education in the areas of abuse awareness and concussion training.

Additional training such as basic first aid, advanced first aid, CPR training, and mountain bike coaching best practices are required every 2 or 3 years depending on the level of coaching.

  • While there is an inherent risk in participating in any outdoor activity, Georgia Cycling makes rider safety a top priority through comprehensive risk management. Coaching candidates are required to go through extensive training (both on and off the bike) prior to becoming a Georgia Cycling coach. Our program structure is designed to create an opportunity that is both safe and fun for kids.

  • No. The Georgia Cycling Race Series presented by Northside Hospital is a separate add-on.

About 80% of our program participants opt to compete in the race series. However, it is a highly personalized choice as each child chooses to join the competition on their own developmental timetable. You can learn more about the race series here.

  • Yes! We never want cost to prevent a child from gaining access to our programs. That’s why Georgia Cycling offers a needs-based Rider Finacial Assistance program that can help offset the cost of registering for the Georgia Cycling program. We also have a Loaner Bike Program. Learn more about our Rider Assistance Program here.

Your local team may also have a financial assistance program too!
